About LuLu's... The name LuLu was a nickname given to me (Laura) by my grandmother Francis.

My love for the 50's started young at my grandmothers dressing table, where I could always find ceramic poodles and lady lamps with frilly shades. Looking behind me in the mirror was the coolest pink chiffon bedspread with soft flowing pillows. But the one thing I remember most was her "cat eye" glasses.

My love for the forties began later and was inspired by Aunt Madelyn, who embraces that era. We would go antiquing together. She knew so much about everything from the 40's and 50's. I would quiz her about odd objects I would find, not having a clue as to what they were used for. Amazingly she would always know what it was, when it was made, and how it was used.

The renovation of LuLus was definitely a labor of love. The hardest thing, but also the most important to me was modernizing without losing the vintage feel.

We have new modern plumbing, but still have the original bathroom and kitchen sinks from 1953. The showers were surrounded by knotty pine, and that remains. However, the insides are newly tiled in ceramic that looks very vintage.

It took nearly two years just to find the right vintage tables and chairs for each cabin, but we did it. While they didn't have futons in those days, I found some that would have fit right in.

I invite you to spend time at LuLus, hoping the environment that I have tried to create will take you back to a simpler time. While here, there'll be plenty of time to enjoy the beach, spend time with family and create lots of memories in a truly relaxed Lake Huron Vacationland.
